Germany's Merck, Intesa Invest in Biotech Nouscom's $135 Million Round
By Adria Calatayud
Swiss biotech company Nouscom raised 120 million euros ($134.9 million) in a funding round led by Revelation Partners and the venture-capital fund of Germany's Merck KGaA that added Intesa Sanpaolo's Neva SGR and Angelini Industries as new investors.
Nouscom, which focuses on next-generation immunotherapies to treat cancer, also added the European Investment Bank as a new investor, while all existing investors participated in the round, it said.
The new funds will help the company continue to develop its lead drug, NOUS-209, through a late-stage clinical trial for cancer interception--which aims to stop cancer in its earliest stages before tumors fully develop--in hereditary Lynch syndrome carriers, it said.
