ICE Canola Dips Into the Red

WINNIPEG, Manitoba--Canola futures on the Intercontinental Exchange were slightly lower Friday morning due to weakness in vegetable oils and a stronger Canadian dollar.

Chicago soyoil was down while European rapeseed was mostly lower. However, Malaysian palm oil was higher. Crude oil prices were steady for the most part after Yemeni government forces inflicted heavy losses to Houthi rebels.

In Saskatchewan, 89% of the province's canola crop was harvested as of Oct. 12, said its latest crop report. The average canola yield was estimated at 40 bushels per acre. In Manitoba, the canola harvest was 86% complete.

The Prairies will see sunny skies on Friday with daytime high temperatures in Alberta ranging from 15 to 21 degrees Celsius. Saskatchewan and Manitoba will see similar conditions with slightly cooler temperatures.

The Canadian dollar gained two-tenths of a U.S. cent compared with Thursday's close.

Nearly 41,300 contracts were traded.
