Safran, GE Venture Secures Agreement With Turkish Airlines for Hundreds of Engines
By Joshua Kirby
CFM International said it won a provisional order covering hundreds of engines from Turkish Airlines.
The engine maker, a joint venture between GE Aerospace and French aerospace supplier Safran, said Friday that the airline group had agreed a memorandum of understanding to buy more than 300 LEAP-1B engines to power new Boeing 737 MAX jets it recently ordered from the American plane maker. That order, set out last month, includes a firm contract for 100 planes, plus an optional 50 extra.
CFM said the long-term services agreement covers Turkish Airlines' entire LEAP-1B engine fleet, including previously ordered and delivered engines and spares. That represents more than 600 of the engine type operated by the flag carrier and its subsidiary AJet, CFM said.
"This MoU marks a new milestone in our successful relationship with Turkish Airlines," Safran Chief Executive Oliver Andries said.
The companies didn't set out the financial details of the agreement.
