PepsiCo Shares Dip on WSJ Report of KFC Nearing Switch to Coca-Cola
By Elias Schisgall
Shares of PepsiCo fell after The Wall Street Journal reported that KFC is nearing a deal to ditch the beverage provider for Coca-Cola.
PepsiCo shares were down 1.1% at $127.80 following the Journal's article, after spending most of Thursday's session in the green. Shares of Coca-Cola were roughly flat.
Talks between KFC and Coca-Cola are at an advanced stage, the Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. A deal could be announced as soon as Thursday, and a switch could take effect in KFC's U.S. restaurants in January, according to the Journal.
KFC operator Yum! Brands has its origins as Tricon Global Restaurants Inc., a company which was spun off from PepsiCo in 1997.
