Kering Says Sean McGirr Will Leave Creative Leadership of Alexander McQueen

By Andrea Figueras

Kering said Sean McGirr will be leaving his role as creative chief of British luxury fashion brand Alexander McQueen.

The French company, home to other high-end labels like Gucci and Balenciaga, said Thursday that it will soon announce a successor.

"Our ambition is to establish a bold new direction for the House," Kering's Chief Executive Luca de Meo said.

The departure of McGirr, who took the creative helm of the brand in 2023, comes months after Kering named Gianfranco D'Attis as CEO of Alexander McQueen in an effort to revive its fortunes.

Kering is implementing a plan to regain consumers' interest in its brands at a time when the broader luxury sector contends with faltering demand for pricey fashion and accessories.

Last week, the company said it parted ways with designer Anthony Vaccarello, Saint Laurent's creative director, while Bottega Veneta recently appointed a new CEO. Gucci is in the midst of its own turnaround plan under fresh management and creative direction.
