Amazon Launches Two Wearable AI Products Under Bee Brand
By Katherine Hamilton
Amazon rolled out two new AI products from its wearable brand Bee, which listens to conversations throughout the day and offers insights about them.
The two new products are the Bee Frontier, which can be worn around the wrist or clipped on clothing, and the Bee Eclipse, which attaches to the back of a smartphone. Bee products monitor and transcribe its wearers' conversations throughout the day. AI then sorts the conversations into a searchable history, offering key events and to-do lists based on the transcripts.
The Frontier is equipped with seven days of battery life and water resistance so it can be worn in any scenario for a full week. The Eclipse is designed to transcribe phone conversations.
Bee is also introducing a new capability to connect with Alexa+ and Amazon.com.
The connection with Alexa+ allows users to listen to summaries and insights from Bee, rather than having to look at their phones. The Amazon.com connection enables more personalized shopping recommendations.
Bee is somewhat of a pivot for Amazon, which has for a long time emphasized that any of its listening devices won't start listening until they are cued. Bee instead listens 24/7, which has raised privacy concerns.
Amazon said the new Bee products don't store audio and no one has access to the data unless it is shared by the owner. Users can delete transcripts and summaries at any time.
