Singapore Exports Surge in September on Non-Electronics Shipments
By Amanda Lee
SINGAPORE--Singapore's non-oil domestic exports in September beat expectations, picking up sharply thanks to non-electronics shipments.
Non-oil domestic exports rose 68.4% compared with the same period a year earlier, Enterprise Singapore said Friday. That followed the revised 46.1% increase in August, and exceeded the 32.4% growth tipped by a Wall Street Journal poll of economists.
"The expansion was driven by non-electronics, primarily due to the lumpy exports of structures of ships and boats," said the government agency.
For the first nine months of 2026, NODX grew 27.6% on year.
Electronics exports, a key driver of Singapore's trade growth, rose 107.6% on year in September, compared with August's revised 131.6% increase. Shipments were supported by robust AI-related demand, said Enterprise Singapore.
Non-electronics exports rose 54.2% from a year earlier in September, compared with the revised 11.9% rise in August.
NODX to the U.S., Taiwan and Hong Kong expanded in September, while shipments to India declined, Enterprise Singapore said.
The trade figures follow advance estimates showing that Singapore's economic growth slowed in the third quarter but exceeded expectations.
Demand linked to the artificial-intelligence boom has supported Singapore's electronics exports. The ongoing Middle East conflict poses risks to the broader trade outlook.
Memory prices, demand for advanced packaging and AI server orders could offer clues to the direction of non-oil domestic exports, OCBC's Selena Ling said in a recent note.
