Trump Administration to Use DPA for Delek Texas Refinery Expansion — OPIS

The Trump administration will use the Defense Production Act to support an expansion of Delek US Holdings' refinery in Tyler, Texas, aimed at increasing production of commercial-grade and military-specification fuels, Vice President JD Vance said Tuesday during a campaign rally in Tyler.

Vance said the administration was working with the company to expand the facility. The project is expected to add millions of gallons of fuel production and create hundreds of jobs in Smith County.

It remains unclear how the DPA will be applied to facilitate the expansion. The 1950 law gives the federal government authority to support domestic industrial capacity considered essential to national defense. The administration has increasingly used the measure to advance energy-related initiatives, framing domestic fuel production as both an economic and national security priority.

Vance said the additional output would improve energy reliability, strengthen military fuel supplies and help reduce transportation costs for consumers.

The Delek expansion adds to the administration's efforts to bolster domestic refining capacity, although the project's ultimate contribution to U.S. fuel supply remains uncertain.
