Syndax Says Pulmonary Fibrosis Drug Trial Misses Primary Endpoint
By Katherine Hamilton
Syndax Pharmaceuticals' trial of a drug to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis didn't meet its primary endpoint.
Based on the results, the New York-based drug company doesn't plan to move forward with future development of axatilimab as a treatment for the lung disease.
The Phase 2 trial of axatilimab didn't meet its target for annualized rate of decline in forced vital capacity, a metric of the total amount of air a patient can forcefully exhale after taking a deep breath.
Shares dropped 13% to $14.45 in after-hours trading Monday.
The safety and tolerability profile was consistent with previous studies. The trial was a 26-week study with 145 patients.
Axatilimab is already approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a treatment after failure of two prior therapies for chronic graft-versus-host disease, a complication that can occur from stem-cell or bone-marrow transplants.
The drug is also being studied in combination with other therapies in patients with newly diagnosed graft-versus-host disease.
