Crédit Agricole Agrees to Buy German Bank IKB
By Elias Schisgall
Crédit Agricole agreed to buy the German bank IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG as part of its expansion push in Germany.
The French banking group on Monday said it reached an agreement with Lone Star Funds to acquire 100% of IKB's share capital, funded with its own resources. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
Crédit Agricole said the acquisition is expected to negatively impact the bank's Common Equity Tier 1 ratio by about 20 basis points at closing. The deal is expected to close by the end of the second quarter.
IKB will give Crédit Agricole a strong presence in Germany's mid-corporate banking market and build on its existing expansion push in Germany.
"Germany is at the heart of our European ambitions and a key pillar of our ACT 2028 plan," Crédit Agricole Chief Executive Olivier Gavalda said. "With IKB, we welcome into the Group a franchise of exceptional quality, built on a century of proximity to clients, deep sector expertise and an unwavering commitment to the Mittelstand."
