Raytheon Gets $6.3 Billion Missile Interceptor Contract
By Katherine Hamilton
Raytheon secured a five-year contract valued at up to $6.3 billion to make missile interceptors for the Pentagon.
The contract has an option to add two more years. Under the grant, Raytheon will build Standard Missile-3 Block IB interceptors.
The interceptors are ship- and land-based missile defense products designed to defeat short- and mid-range ballistic missiles in the middle of their flight. The interceptors were first used in combat in 2024 and are an integral part of the Navy's air defense.
Raytheon's parent company RTX has invested in expanding capacity and speeding up production of munitions, including the Standard Missile category.
Production under the contract will be primarily completed in Tucson Ariz., and Huntsville, Ala.
