Nvidia to Invest $1 Billion in U.S. Science Over Next 5 Years

By Kelly Cloonan

Nvidia said it is committing $1 billion over the next five years to help the U.S. gain an edge in key scientific fields.

The chipmaker said Thursday it will offer compute and super-intelligence infrastructure resources to higher-education research institutions, as well as support for cloud service providers bolstering U.S. government needs, as part of the investment.

The investment will focus on building out the U.S. research and development capacity in a number of fields, including quantum computing, healthcare and energy security, Nvidia said.

"This is how America turns scientific leadership into industrial leadership, and innovation into jobs and opportunity for generations," Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang said.
