7-Eleven Owner's First-Half Net Profit Rose on Robust Overseas Convenience-Store Business

Seven & I's net profit rose 2.2% in its fiscal first half, driven by its robust overseas convenience-store business.

The Japanese owner of 7-Eleven said Thursday that net profit for the six months ended August rose to 124.44 billion yen, equivalent to $787.2 million, from Y121.80 billion a year earlier. For the June-August period, net profit fell to Y63.84 billion from Y74.79 billion but beat the Y61.3 billion estimate in a poll of analysts by data provider Visible Alpha.

Revenue for the first half fell to Y5.46 trillion from Y5.62 trillion, while operating profit increased to Y232.28 billion from Y208.39 billion.

Operating profit for its overseas convenience-store business surged 88% to Y150.42 billion in the first half, while that for its domestic convenience-store business declined 9.8% to Y109.90 billion.

Seven & I kept its earnings guidance for the fiscal year that began in March. It expects revenue of Y10.43 trillion and net profit of Y278.00 billion.
