ICE Review: Canola Drops on Vegetable Oil Weakness
WINNIPEG, Manitoba--Canola futures on the Intercontinental Exchange fell back on Wednesday, dragged down by weakness in vegetable oils as well as fund selling.
Chicago soyoil lost more than two United States cents per pound amid overall weakness in the vegetable oil complex. European rapeseed and Malaysian palm oil also showed declines. Crude oil prices were down as increased Middle Eastern exports outweighed attacks on the Strait of Hormuz.
At mid-afternoon, the Canadian dollar declined more than one-tenth of a U.S. cent compared to Tuesday's close, tempering canola's losses.
There were 97,099 canola contracts traded on Wednesday, compared to Tuesday when 76,249 contracts changed hands. Spreads accounted for 66,370 contracts in today's trade.
Settlement prices are in Canadian dollars per metric tonne.
