Micron to Pay Netlist $600 Million, Receive 5-Year License In Patent Settlement

By Elias Schisgall

Micron Technology will pay $600 million to Netlist as part of an agreement settling patent disputes between the two companies.

The agreement gives Micron a five-year term to license Netlist's portfolio of patents, including server DIMMs and high-bandwidth memory technologies. Micron's payment will come in the form of $30 million quarterly installments between the fourth quarter of this year and the third quarter of 2031.

The agreement settles all pending legal proceedings between the two parties.

Shares of Netlist rose 14% to $6.46 in Tuesday afternoon trading.

Netlist had filed a patent infringement complaint with the International Trade Commission against Micron and some of its customers, prompting the ITC to vote last month to investigate Micron's DRAM memory technology. Netlist filed a second complaint with the ITC last week.

The company also recently lost its appeal in a separate patent case against Micron.

"The agreement with Micron further validates the value of our AI memory technologies," Netlist Chief Executive C.K. Hong said. "We remain committed to protecting our IP while continuing to invest in the development of next-generation products."
