Shionogi to Acquire IntraBio for $2 Billion
By Kosaku Narioka
Shionogi has agreed to acquire Austin, Texas-based drugmaker IntraBio for $2 billion.
The Japanese drugmaker said Monday that IntraBio's expertise would strengthen Shionogi's capabilities across its rare disease pipeline.
Through the transaction, Shionogi would acquire global rights, including intellectual property and commercialization rights, for Aqneursa, which is approved in the U.S. and the European Union for the treatment of neurological manifestations of Niemann-Pick disease type C.
The Japanese company said it would acquire shares of IntraBio from existing shareholders, including individuals, trusts and corporate entities.
The acquisition is scheduled to be completed between November and December, said Shionogi.
