NextEra Energy Unit Selected to Work on $22 Billion Texas Energy Infrastructure Campus
By Elias Schisgall
NextEra Energy Resources was selected by the Commerce Department and the South Korean government to develop a more than $22 billion energy infrastructure campus in Encinal, Texas.
The company, owned by NextEra Energy, will work on the Project Star campus with Related Companies, in partnership with Lewis Energy Group. The project is expected to have capacity for 6.47 gigawatts of natural gas generation.
It will support a nearby privately funded, 5 GW data center campus being developed by Related Digital. Excess power from Project Star will be delivered back to the grid.
The project is expected to create 8,400 jobs during peak construction activity, and will support 170 permanent jobs once operational.
Initial generating resources could come online by 2029.
The project is part of a trade deal signed last summer between South Korea and the U.S.
