Ten-Year Treasury Yield Hits Fresh 24-Year High
By Paulo Trevisani
The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield reached 5.304% Wednesday, its highest intraday level since May 2002.
The move extends a bond selloff as markets digest mixed signals from the most recent inflation data.
PCE core inflation rose by 3% over the 12 months ended in August, the Commerce Department said, down from 3.3% a month earlier. Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had expected 3.3% again.
Yields fell on the data, just to recover later, with longer-end tenors rising faster. The 30-year reached 5.651%, hovering around 24-year highs.
Employment data due Friday are likely to swing yields, as markets estimate the likelihood of an interest rate increase by the Fed in October.
