Babcock International Agrees Extension on U.K. Defense Contract Ahead of Successor Agreement
By Anthony O. Goriainoff
Babcock International said it agreed to a two-month extension to a U.K. defense contract, starting Thursday.
The London-listed defense company said the extension refers to the Future Maritime Support Programme bridging contract with the U.K. Ministry of Defence.
The company said the extension ensured the uninterrupted delivery of critical support services for the country's naval bases and the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet as negotiations are finalized on a long-term successor contract.
The company said the new contract, known as the Gateway Agreement, will establish the long-term operational framework for Babcock as the sole provider of in-service submarine support to the Royal Navy.
