L3Harris Gets $6 Billion Contract From Lockheed Martin to Expand Propulsion Production
By Kelly Cloonan
L3Harris Technologies received a contract valued at more than $6 billion from Lockheed Martin to expand propulsion production for a missile defense system.
Under the seven-year contract, L3Harris will build a new facility for increased rocket boost motor manufacturing for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system. L3Harris will also expand capacity for THAAD's liquid divert and attitude control production, the company said.
THAAD is an advanced system capable of intercepting ballistic missile threats inside and outside of Earth's atmosphere.
The contract comes after L3Harris and the Defense Department entered a framework agreement earlier this year to quadruple THAAD propulsion production.
"This contract underscores L3Harris' demonstrated ability to quickly deliver critical defense technologies at the scale and speed required by the Department of War," said Ken Bedingfield, president, missile solutions at L3Harris.
