Mitsubishi to Boost Ayala Stake in Over $700 Million Deal
By Jiahui Huang
Mitsubishi Corp. is raising its stake in Ayala Corp. to 15% in a more than $700 million deal, deepening its ties with one of the Philippines' largest conglomerates to support the economy's growth.
The Japanese trading house will acquire shares in Ayala at 650 Philippine pesos each in a transaction valued at about 44.5 billion pesos, equivalent to $707.6 million, the Philippine company said Monday. Mitsubishi, which currently holds a 4.7% stake, according to Ayala, will also increase its voting interest to 20% following the deal's completion.
Ayala expects to receive about 20 billion pesos in proceeds, which will go toward debt repayment, share repurchases and growth initiatives.
The expanded alliance will strengthen the companies' cooperation across the infrastructure, energy, real estate, digital technology, mobility and logistics sectors, as well as and other growth industries, Ayala said.
Mitsubishi said it expects the deal to be completed within fiscal 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and the satisfaction of applicable tender offer requirements.
