ICE Review: Canola Follows Crude Oil Higher
WINNIPEG, Manitoba--Canola futures on the Intercontinental Exchange made gains on Tuesday as crude oil's momentum spilled over into the oilseed.
An analyst said attacks on a major pipeline in Saudi Arabia by Iran-backed Houthi rebels and the shutdown that followed caused crude oil prices to rise by US$2.50 to US$4 per barrel. Three oil facilities in Libya halted operations today after protesters shut down a valve to a pipeline.
Chicago soyoil, European rapeseed and Malaysian palm oil were higher.
Statistics Canada will release its principal field crop report on Wednesday.
At mid-afternoon, the Canadian dollar was down less than one-tenth of a U.S. cent compared to Monday's close.
There were 52,258 canola contracts traded on Tuesday, compared to Monday when 57,565 contracts changed hands. Spreads accounted for 32,646 contracts in today's trade.
Settlement prices are in Canadian dollars per metric tonne.
