Ford Recalls More Than 223,000 Trucks Over Fuel-Tank Issues

By Kelly Cloonan

Ford Motor is recalling more than 223,000 of its F-150 pickup trucks over potential issues with their fuel tanks.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said certain F-150 vehicles from model years 2023 through 2027 may have a fuel tank that is improperly secured and leak fuel, or which may detach from the vehicle while driving.

A fuel leak can cause an engine to stall or increase the risk of a fire, while a detached tank can create a hazard on the road, increasing the risk of a crash, the NHTSA said.

About 1% of the recalled vehicles are estimated to have the defect, according to an NHTSA safety-recall report.

The regulator said dealers will inspect and replace the fuel-tank straps as necessary, free of charge. It expects owner-notification letters to be mailed Sept. 21.
