Tech Down on Spike in Oil Futures - Tech Roundup

Shares of technology companies fell as a spike in oil futures and Treasury yields tamed risk appetite.

Chinese artificial intelligence companies attempted to clone American AI models by funneling real Chinese user queries to them via a network of intermediate platforms, said U.S. AI firm Anthropic.

A tighter regulatory climate in China is casting a cloud over robotics startup Galaxea AI's plan to go public in Hong Kong.

Positron, an AI chip startup focused on designing hardware that helps models run more quickly, said it has raised $875 million at a valuation of $5 billion, marking a significant increase in the company's worth over the last six months.

The debate over AI regulation is expected to heat up ahead of the midterm elections in November, according to one brokerage. "Data centers are expected to remain prominent in campaign discourse over the next two months, supported by significant technology-sector political spending," said strategists at brokerage Jefferies, in a note to clients. "After the elections, however, data-center opposition may lose force as the primary line of attack. Attention is expected to shift toward AI safety and AGI-related risks in 2027, while public resistance to individual projects remains but becomes more manageable."
