Thales, Leonardo Space Venture Gets $582 Million Order for Satellite Payloads
By Mauro Orru
A joint venture between France's Thales and Italy's Leonardo said it had secured an order of approximately 500 million euros ($581.7 million) to supply payloads for 330 low Earth orbit satellites.
Thales Alenia Space said it had signed an agreement with French satellite operator Eutelsat to supply payloads--equipment that satellites carry to perform their mission--as part of a future European constellation that will provide secure government communication services for civil protection and emergency management agencies, security and defense communications, as well as commercial services.
The joint venture said the first 66 telecommunications satellites would launch in 2029.
