U.S. Accepts American Battery's Plan for Lithium Project in Nevada

By Kelly Cloonan

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management accepted American Battery Technology's mine and refinery plan of operations for a lithium project in Nevada.

The company said Tuesday that the project, which has been designated for streamlined federal permitting, is designed to bolster domestic production of critical minerals needed for battery energy storage systems for domestic data centers and artificial intelligence, electric vehicles and consumer electronics. It includes more than 10,000 acres of public land in central Nevada.

Acceptance of the plan is the culmination of four years of work, American Battery said, that was put into developing the project, conducting environmental studies of the site and demonstrating its technologies for the manufacturing of high-purity lithium hydroxide.

The company said its next step in the federal review process is to publish a notice of intent in the Federal Register to prepare an environmental impact statement. The company said it will continue supporting the review process and engaging with stakeholders as the project advances through federal, state and local permitting requirements.
