Albermarle Hires BHP's Ragnar Udd as President, CEO

By Colin Kellaher

Albemarle has hired BHP executive Ragnar Udd to succeed Kent Masters at the helm of the producer of specialty chemicals.

Albemarle on Thursday said Udd, who is currently BHP's chief commercial officer and a member of the Australian miner's executive leadership team, will join the Charlotte, N.C., company as president and chief executive on Feb. 1, 2027.

Masters, who has been chairman and CEO since 2020, will become executive chairman on that date, the company said.

Udd has been with BHP since 1997 and was previously viewed as a potential successor to Mike Henry as CEO of the world's largest copper producer. That job went to Brandon Craig earlier this year.

BHP earlier this week said Udd would be leaving at the end of January.
