Volvo Joins Coalition in Drive to Scale Hydrogen-Powered Trucks

By Dominic Chopping

STOCKHOLM--Swedish truck maker Volvo, together with German policymakers and a group of companies from the transport, energy and industrial sectors, is collaborating to advance hydrogen-powered transport.

Volvo Group, Daimler Truck, Toyota Motor, Bosch, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility, MB Energy, and others aim to accelerate the commercialization of the technology and build the ecosystem needed to scale deployment of hydrogen trucks by 2030.

The collaboration will combine supportive policy frameworks, a strong manufacturer offering, and an integrated hydrogen supply chain and infrastructure, it said.

"The activities include the deployment of hydrogen refueling stations along key strategic corridors in Europe, in synchronization with the hydrogen-powered truck fleets as well as a competitive hydrogen price," Volvo said.

This will enable customers to operate hydrogen-powered vehicles with a competitive total cost of ownership, it added.

Full details are due to be outlined at a trade event in Germany later this month.
