By Nina Kienle
Volkswagen said Marco Schubert would assume responsibility for overall management of the North America region, reporting directly to Chief Executive Oliver Blume.
Schubert will join the extended executive committee of the North America region and step into the role on Oct. 1, the German automaker said.
Kjell Gruner--previously responsible for the region as CEO of Volkswagen Group of America and CEO of Volkswagen Brand North America--is stepping down to pursue new challenges, the company said.
Schubert currently serves as a member on the board of management for sales and marketing at Audi, as well as member of the extended executive committee of the Volkswagen group with a focus on sales, marketing and after sales, the manufacturer said.
Volkswagen is in the midst of a restructuring amid intense competition and growing challenges in the industry.
Meanwhile, Martin Sander will take on the role of new member of the board of management for sales and marketing at Audi and member of the extended executive committee of Volkswagen group. Martin Jahn will takeover as member of the Volkswagen brand board of management, to be responsible for sales, marketing and after sales, Volkswagen said.
