Air Liquide Shares Rise After Reports of Elliott Stake
By Adria Calatayud
Air Liquide shares rose after media reports that activist investor Elliott Management has built a stake in the French supplier of industrial gases.
Shares in Air Liquide were up 3.5% in European morning trading Tuesday, taking their year-to-date gain to more than 20%.
The rise came after the Financial Times and other publications reported, citing unnamed sources, that Elliott has taken a stake in Air Liquide.
Elliott declined to comment. Air Liquide didn't respond to a request for comment.
Air Liquide has increased its profit margins since 2020, has a record order backlog and its recent acquisition of DIG Airgas means there isn't an obvious traditional activist playbook for the company, analysts at Bernstein wrote in a note to clients. But Air Liquide still has room for incremental improvements without changing its strategy, such as boosting its exposure to the growing space industry, they added.
