ICE Canola Lower in Early Trading
WINNIPEG, Manitoba--Intercontinental Exchange canola futures stepped back on Thursday morning, due to pressure from other vegetable oils.
There were declines in Chicago soybeans and soyoil, as well as European rapeseed and Malaysian palm oil. Increases in crude oil and Chicago soymeal tempered the losses.
With the losses in canola, the November contract was a pinch below its 20-day moving average.
Canola crush margins dipped a few dollars with the November positions between C$256 and C$264.15 per metric ton above the futures.
The Prairie weather forecast stood favorable for harvesting, with temperatures in the mid 20s to 30 degrees Celsius with no rain.
Manitoba reported its canola harvest was 5% complete in the province's central region. Saskatchewan is set to issue its crop report later Thursday.
The Canadian dollar edged higher on Thursday morning with the loonie at 72.17 U.S. cents, compared with Wednesday's close of 72.07.
Approximately 14,600 contracts had been traded by 9:47 EDT and prices in Canadian dollars per metric ton were:
