JD.com Offers Remedies to EU in Ceconomy Takeover Scrutiny
By Edith Hancock
Chinese e-commerce group JD.com offered remedies to the European Union's competition regulator as officials investigate the company's bid for Germany's Ceconomy, according to an update on the European Commission's website.
The website update, dated Aug. 18, did not outline the remedies.
JD.com agreed to launch a takeover offer for Ceconomy in July 2025, with the offer valued at around 2.23 billion euros ($2.6 billion).
EU officials opened an in-depth investigation into the bid in May this year under the bloc's foreign subsidies regulation and issued a formal statement of grounds in July over concerns that JD.com may have received subsidies that distort the internal market. The commission has set a provisional Oct. 23 deadline to conclude its investigation.
