China Resources Beer's First-Half Profit Fell
By Amanda Lee
China Resources Beer's net profit fell for the first half, as losses for the baijiu segment widened.
Net profit dropped 11% to 5.17 billion yuan, equivalent to $766.7 million, the Chinese beer maker said Wednesday. Turnover rose 1.2% to 24.24 billion yuan.
The company said its beer sales volume was about 6.6 million kiloliters in the first half, up 1.7% from a year earlier. The beer business posted a slight decline in first-half earnings before interest and taxation to 7.23 billion yuan from 7.24 billion yuan.
However, the baijiu segment's losses before interest and taxation widened to 281 million yuan from 152 million yuan a year ago.
The company said there is considerable short-term operational pressure on the baijiu business, pointing to "a cycle of profound adjustments and consumption polarization" in China's baijiu industry.
China Resources Beer declared an interim dividend of 0.446 yuan, down from 0.464 yuan a year ago.
