ICE Review: Canola Rallies into Weekend
ICE Futures canola contracts were stronger on Friday, hitting their highest levels in three weeks as bullish technical signals and solid end user demand provided support.
- November canola was up C$15.40 at C$818.90 per tonne, trading well above its major moving averages.
- Chicago soybeans and soyoil were also higher, but the Canadian oilseed outpaced the U.S. markets to the upside.
- End users looking to secure old crop supplies ahead of the new crop harvest accounted for some of the strength, with narrowing basis levels in Western Canada a sign of that demand.
- Canada exported 231,000 tonnes of canola during the first week of the 2026-27 marketing year, reported the Canadian Grain Commission. That was up from 92,000 tonnes the previous week, but down nine per cent from the same week a year ago.
- Relatively favourable weather forecasts for most of the Prairies tempered the advances.
- There were 58,334 contracts traded on Friday, which compares with Thursday when 54,710 contracts changed hands.
