Impala Platinum Expects to Post Jump in Earnings on Higher Prices

By Adam Whittaker

Impala Platinum said it expects to post a rise in full-year earnings after getting a boost from higher metals prices.

The South African platinum miner said it expects to post headline earnings between 21.8 billion South African rand and 23.8 billion rand for the year ended June 30, equivalent to $1.35 billion to $1.47 billion. This compares with the 700 million rand it booked last year.

Basic earnings are seen between 30 billion rand and 32 billion rand, up from 800 million rand.

It said the earnings benefited from the reversal of 8.1 billion rand of impairments on property, plants and equipment, and a prepaid royalty at Impala Rustenburg due to higher platinum group metal prices.

The miner said it expects to release its full-year results on or around Sept. 3.
