Swiss Re on Track to Deliver Guidance
By Andrea Figueras
Swiss Re reiterated its outlook for the year as a whole after reporting strong earnings for the second quarter.
The Zurich-based reinsurer said Thursday that it made net profit of $1.3 billion for the second quarter, ahead of analysts' expectations of $1.2 billion, according to a company-compiled consensus. For the first half, net profit rose 9% to $2.83 billion against an estimate of $2.71 billion, helped by positive trends across the three businesses.
The group generated first-half insurance revenue of $20.26 billion, compared with $20.95 billion a year before. Lower revenue in the property-and-casualty segment were partly offset by higher revenue in its life-and-health unit.
"Strong earnings delivery in the first half of the year puts us well on track towards our 2026 financial targets, while we remain vigilant as we approach the peak of the hurricane season," Chief Executive Andreas Berger said.
Swiss Re continues to anticipate net profit of $4.5 billion for this year.
Its Swiss solvency test ratio stood at 264% as of July 1, surpassing consensus's 262% estimate.
