Eli Lilly Posts Higher 2Q Revenue on Continued GLP-1 Demand

By Connor Hart

Eli Lilly reported higher net income and revenue in the recent quarter, fueled by continued surging demand for its GLP-1 weight-loss drugs.

The pharmaceutical company on Wednesday posted second-quarter net income of $7.1 billion, or $7.94 a share, compared with $5.66 billion, or $6.29 a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out one-time items, earnings were $8.38 a share. Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected adjusted earnings of $6.01 a share.

Revenue jumped 48% to $22.97 billion, driven by a 60% increase in volume and partially offset by a 13% decrease in realized prices. Wall Street modeled $20.69 billion in revenue.

The company has seen soaring demand for its weight-loss treatments Mounjaro and Zepbound, both of which saw sales surge from the previous year. The company reported $9.94 billion in Mounjaro revenue--up 91% from last year--as well as $4.93 billion in Zepbound revenue--up 46% from last year.

For the year, Eli Lilly said it now expects adjusted earnings of $35.50 to $36.50 a share, lowering the high-end of its outlook by 50 cents. The company raised its revenue outlook to between $85 billion and $87 billion, from between $82 billion and $85 billion.

Analysts are looking for earnings of $35.04 a share on revenue of $85.28 billion.

Shares rose 5.8%, to $1,180.01, in premarket trading.

The report came as CVS Health separately on Wednesday said it will revamp its weight management program through a partnership with Eli Lilly, allowing patients to use the CVS Health app to view transparent pricing options for GLP-1 treatments.
