Amphenol Second-Quarter Sales Climb 55% on IT Datacom Strength

By Katherine Hamilton

Amphenol recorded a 55% jump in sales during the second quarter, fueled by growth in the IT datacom market.

The maker of electronic parts on Wednesday posted a profit of $1.77 billion, or $1.37 a share, compared with $1.09 billion, or 86 cents a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted per-share earnings were $1.35, ahead of the $1.18 anticipated by analysts, according to FactSet.

Revenue rose 55% to $8.76 billion. Analysts surveyed by FactSet forecast revenue of $8.26 billion.

Sales were driven by growth in most of Amphenol's end markets, Chief Executive Adam Norwitt said. Performance was especially strong in the IT datacom market, which involves transferring digital information across devices, he said.

Amphenol expects third-quarter sales will be between $9.3 billion and $9.4 billion, with adjusted earnings per share of $1.40 to $1.42. Both ranges would be ahead of Wall Street projections of $8.67 billion in sales and $1.27 a share in adjusted earnings.

Shares of the company rose 6% to $153 in premarket trading.
