Stellantis to Sell Free2move's Car-Sharing Business to Mutares

By Dominic Chopping

Stellantis agreed to sell its Free2move car-sharing business to private-equity firm Mutares, as it moves ahead with recently presented plans to sharpen its focus on key brands.

The automaker said that as an independent business within Mutares, Free2move's car-sharing business will benefit from enhanced agility, dedicated investment and increased operational flexibility, helping it pursue growth in a competitive market.

Stellantis, which houses a sprawling stable of brands, has pledged to focus the bulk of its investments on four key brands across Europe and the U.S., part of a new turnaround plan outlined earlier this year.

"By sharpening our focus on core automotive activities, we strengthen our capacity to deliver long-term performance," Virgilio Cerutti, head of business development and partnerships at Stellantis, said Tuesday.

Free2move's car-sharing business offers short- and long-term car-sharing services, with fleets across 14 cities in Europe and the U.S.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Completion is expected by the end of 2026, subject to consultation processes with employee representative bodies and regulatory approvals.
