Maple Leaf Foods Recalls Over 12,000 Pounds of Bacon

By Anvee Bhutani

Maple Leaf Foods is recalling about 12,036 pounds of smoked bacon products after they were imported from Canada without undergoing required U.S. import reinspection, according to the U.S. Agriculture Department's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The recall covers 12-ounce packages of Royale Natural Applewood Smoked All Natural Uncured Bacon and Top Valu Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon produced on June 9, 10, 12, 13 and 15.

The affected products bear Canadian establishment number "EST. 1" and were distributed to Grocery Outlet distributors and retailers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

The issue was identified during routine FSIS inspection activities. No illnesses or injuries linked to the recalled products have been reported.

FSIS urged consumers not to eat the recalled bacon and instead throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.
