Airbus Sets Midterm Profitability Goal

By Mauro Orru

Airbus said it aimed to significantly boost its profitability in the coming years and that it would strengthen shareholder returns with a new share buyback program of 5 billion euros ($5.71 billion), betting that demand for civil and military aircraft would continue to fuel growth.

The European plane maker said adjusted earnings before interest and taxes--Airbus's preferred measure of profitability--would grow to a range between 12 billion euros and 13 billion euros in 2029, up from 7.13 billion euros in 2025.

Airbus also said its board of directors had approved a share buyback program of 5 billion euros over three years in a bid to return more money to shareholders.

"As we ramp up across all our businesses, working to meet strong demand for our portfolio of innovative civil and military solutions, our priorities are clear. Our trajectory fuels our profitable growth," Chief Executive Guillaume Faury said.
