SMBC Aviation Orders 200 Jets From Boeing, Airbus — Update

SMBC Aviation Capital has ordered 100 737 MAX jets from Boeing and 100 A320neo Family aircraft from Airbus.

The companies on Monday said the Boeing order includes 60 units of the 737-10 jets, marking the aviation finance platform's first purchase for the 737 MAX family's highest capacity variant. The order additionally includes 40 aircraft from the 737-8 line.

SMBC Aviation Chief Executive Peter Barrett said the transaction represents a significant milestone for the company and will ensure its airline customers have access to a long-term pipeline of new technology aircraft.

"This order reflects market dynamics as our airline and investor customers look to upgauge to the 737-10," he said. "This order will support their growth ambitions well into the next decade."

SMBC Aviation also placed a firm order for 65 Airbus A321neo and 35 A320neo aircraft. The agreement was finalized at the Farnborough International Airshow.
