By Kwanwoo Jun
Samsung Biologics has offered to buy Swiss contract drug manufacturer PolyPeptide Group for around $1.8 billion.
The South Korean biotechnology company said Monday it has launched an all-cash public tender offer valuing PolyPeptide at 1.46 billion Swiss francs, equivalent to $1.81 billion. The transaction is valued at 2.706 trillion won, Samsung Biologics said.
Under the terms of the offer, PolyPeptide shareholders will receive 44.31 Swiss francs a share, according to both companies.
PolyPeptide's board of directors has unanimously recommended that shareholders accept the offer.
Samsung Biologics expects the transaction to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
PolyPeptide is a Swiss contract development and manufacturing organization that develops and manufactures peptide ingredients for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
The deal would help Samsung Biologics strengthen its presence in the rapidly growing market for peptide-based therapeutics, including treatments for obesity and diabetes.
