SpaceX Shares Fall as Starship Test Flight is Postponed

By Elias Schisgall

Shares of SpaceX fell after the company postponed a planned test flight of its Starship rocket at the last minute.

Shares were down 4% to $125.83 in after-hours trading. The stock closed down 3.1% at $131.11, down 19% since its debut as a public company earlier this summer.

"Standing down from today's flight test attempt," the company posted on X early Thursday evening.

Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk wrote on X that some of the spacecraft's engines failed to start, which triggered an automatic abort of the launch. "Next launch attempt hopefully in a few days," he wrote.

The launch was intended to deploy 20 Starlink V3 satellites to space. The company announced the launch earlier this week after a required investigation into an earlier test flight was closed.

The aborted launch comes one day after SpaceX shares dipped below their initial public offering price of $135 for the first time.
