Baidu Seeks Dual-Primary Listing in Hong Kong, U.S.

By Tracy Qu

Baidu is seeking to convert its Hong Kong listing to a dual-primary listing alongside its U.S. listing this year, the company said in a filing Thursday.

The conversion is expected to take effect this year, the Beijing-based company said. Its shares and American depositary receipts will continue to trade on both exchanges and remain mutually fungible.

The dual-primary listing is likely to enhance the liquidity of its securities, broaden its investor base and provide greater flexibility in accessing both capital markets, it said.

Baidu, once considered China's answer to Google, faces fierce competition from technology giants and AI startups. It has been seeking new growth engines in areas such as autonomous-driving technology and AI.

The company went public on the Nasdaq Stock Market in 2005 and completed a secondary listing in Hong Kong in 2021. Alibaba Group also converted its Hong Kong listing to a primary listing in 2024, giving it dual-primary status in Hong Kong and New York.
