BHP Splits Americas Role in Executive Reshuffle

By Rhiannon Hoyle

Incoming BHP Group chief executive, Brandon Craig, will split his recent role overseeing the miner's Americas operations in two, saying the change will allow a greater focus on the North and South America regions.

BHP named innovation vice president Jessica Farrell as President North America effective July 1. Farrell will be acting President South America until that role is filled, BHP said.

The company also said that, from September, Chief Operating Officer Edgar Basto will become chief enterprise performance officer, adding responsibilities including for strengthening contractor safety. Geraldine Slattery remains President Australia and will assume responsibility for Copper South Australia, it said.

Craig, a veteran BHP executive who has run the miner's Americas operations since March 2024, will become chief executive of the world's biggest miner by market value on July 1.

"These new appointments ensure that we continue to build organisational capacity, with the right mix of skills, experience and perspectives to deliver BHP's strategy and pursue our growth agenda," said Craig.

"Our operating environment is increasingly complex, but also rich in opportunity for companies that are best able to positively engage stakeholders, deploy capital to the right opportunities in a disciplined way and deliver safe, reliable operational performance."
