J&T Global Express Shares Fall as Regulators Launch Probe Into Safety Measures — Update
By Jiahui Huang
Shares of Chinese delivery firm J&T Global Express tumbled in Hong Kong trading after regulators launched a probe into the company's safety measures.
The stock fell 4.9% to 8.36 Hong Kong dollars, equivalent to US$1.07, on Thursday, marking its steepest one-day decline since late March.
China's State Post Bureau said Thursday entities operating under the J&T Global Express name, trademark and waybills have been involved in multiple work-safety incidents this year.
Regulators said they identified recurring safety hazards at the firm's facilities and launched an investigation.
J&T Global Express, in response, said in a statement that it "is fully cooperating" with the regulatory review and "highly values the guidance provided," adding that it has established a dedicated task force to implement comprehensive safety enhancements.
J&T Global Express has expanded its businesses rapidly outside China, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, Brazil, Egypt and Southeast Asia.
The company is expected to report 45% volume growth in Southeast Asian markets this year, according to DBS analysts, citing strong growth momentum.
