Chip Stocks Fall on Weak Broadcom Forecast

By Nicholas G. Miller

Shares of chip makers broadly fell after Broadcom offered weak third-quarter guidance, particularly for AI semiconductor revenue.

Micron Technology fell 6.6%. Sandisk was down 1.7%. Intel slipped 2%. Advanced Micro Devices slid 6.3%. Meanwhile, Broadcom shares are down 15%.

Broadcom offered third-quarter guidance for AI semiconductor revenue well below expectations on Wednesday, leading its shares to sink in off-hours trading.

That appeared to spur a larger selloff across the chip sector, which has seen a run-up in markets in recent weeks, with investors expecting the AI buildout to drive massive demand for the products of semiconductor companies.
