Meta Platforms Quietly Releases New App for Facebook Groups — Update
By Christopher Kuo
Meta Platforms released Forum, a new standalone Facebook app, which is designed to be a space for users' Facebook Groups.
The free app was released to Apple's App Store without a public announcement.
"We test lots of new products publicly to see what people find interesting and useful to their experiences across our apps," a spokesperson for Meta said.
Forum is "built for deeper discussions, real answers and the communities you care about," according to its description on the App Store. The functionality is akin to Reddit, the social-media platform that revolves around discussion forums.
Meta also recently launched a different standalone app called Instants. Similar to Snap Inc.'s Snapchat, the app allows users to share photos that disappear after they have been viewed. The tool was also made available as a feature on the Instagram app.
