Glencore Says Doesn't Expect Any Immediate Effect on Production After Chilean Environmental Ruling

Glencore said it doesn't expect any immediate effect on production after a ruling by the Chilean Second Environmental Tribunal related to the Collahuasi copper mine.

The commodities company said Monday that the ruling is limited to two issues related to the assessment of effects on a local community and on the marine environment.

The Friday ruling in Chile seeks to overturn environmental approval granted in 2021 for Collahuasi's "Infrastructure Development and Production Capacity Improvement" project, which includes a water desalination plant that is nearly complete, it said.

"Collahuasi has confirmed that the environmental permitting process for the project was carried out in accordance with local regulations and under the relevant environmental framework," Glencore said.

Glencore and Anglo American said that Collahuasi will continue working in coordination with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to determine the appropriate next steps.

Collahuasi is a mining company based in Tarapaca, Chile, with shareholders including Anglo American, Glencore, and Japan Collahuasi Resources.
